SUMMARY:August :: Performance :: Sound*Object :: IV_Gallery :: Cortright_electric :: 08.01.26 7:30pm
DESCRIPTION:Oh hey\, a show! Or\, more specifically\, a weird music show. And\, even\nmore specifically\, a weird music show that directly relates to the\nsound*object show in the gallery. Here’s what’s up: at 7 PM on\nSaturday\, August 1\, Eyevee Arts and Cortright Electric present: From Baltimore\, Lyn Goeringer is a composer\, sound artist\,\nimprovisor\, and performer who makes her own instruments and\nmulti-media pieces that focus on the unusual and everyday within\nsound\, video\, and electronics. Her work relies on intense focus and\nattention to bring the listener to a point of intentional hearing— a\nworld where unusual objects bring haunting soundscapes to life\, and\neveryday objects become sonic in ways we do not usually get the\nopportunity to hear. Informed by reductionism and essentialism in\nimprovisation and compositional practice\, her works investigate\nindividual sounds and images\, giving them the time and space they need\nfor their inner complexity to rise to the surface. Her current\nresearch/practitioner focus is on the mythopoetic as it relates to the\nunconscious and the unseen. \n …I believe for this performance\, an amplified goat skull may be\ninvolved in this performance\, but don’t take my word for it. \n Comfort Link is the solo tape music project of Tim Wisniewski\,\nproprietor and co-founder of the Spleencoffin label in Baltimore.\nUtilizing a battery of temperamental reel to reel tape machines and a\ndistinctly magnetic palette of crumbling hiss\, feedback\, and cozy\nsaturation\, Comfort Link pulls the fragmentary implements and audio\ndetritus of mid-century living room hi-fi culture through the dim\ntunnel of post-industrial audio slime. \nLiz Meredith is a violist\, improviser and composer from Baltimore\,\nMD. Her music explores intersections between acoustic chamber music\,\ninstrumental improvisation\, electro-acoustic composition\, and ambient\nmusic. Liz’s recordings include 3 solo albums\, The Disposition of\nVibrant Forms\, a 5 LP set in collaboration with John Somers\, and\nvarious solo and collaborative works on cassette. Her most recent solo\nalbums Repro – Ext (Hard Return) & Repro (s P L e e N C o F F i N)\nhave received critical acclaim from publications such as Tiny Mix\nTapes\, Vital Weekly\, ATTN Magazine\, and the Sound Projector.  In\naddition to performing her own music\, Liz has premiered new works by\nemerging composers\, and has also contributed her sound to recordings\nby a wide range of artists. \nHolding down the local front: \nCaleb Crittenden is an artist\, experimental musician\, and independent\nresearcher of sound from Syracuse\, New York. Through improvisation\,\nDIY electronics\, modular synthesis\, software development\, and\nelectroacoustic composition\, he creates work that explores attentive\nlistening\, emergence\, and the creative possibilities of unpredictable\nsound. \n And finally \nOtherwise known as Vaux Flores in certain circles\, Travis Johns’ last\nthree performances involved 1.) decimating an electric guitar with an\namplified excavator 2.) sawing a cello in half in a chapel and 3.)\ngiving himself severe frost burns with dry ice while using it to\nresonate an amplified meat cleaver in Bangkok. Given this track\nrecord\, we’re pretty sure he’ll probably just break out the old guitar\nfor some campfire singalongs or something. Keeping on theme\, he also\nused to live in Baltimore.

SUMMARY:August :: Sound*Object :: IV_Gallery :: Cortright_electric :: 07.31.26 6-8pm
DESCRIPTION: \nEyeVee Arts and Cortright Electric are pleased to present Sound*Object\, a show that explores\, well\, sound and objects. Ok\, that’s maybe a little reductive – think of it more like this: this is a sound art show. However\, instead of being something along the lines of performance\, documentation and listening\, we’ll be exploring the concepts of sound with relation to sculpture\, object and interface – where the notions of composition\, instrument and artifact are recontextualized via some aspect of physical tangibility. For this iteration\, we feature four artists\, Lyn Goeringer (Baltimore\, Md)\, Brandon Auger (Halifax\, Nova Scotia)\, Paulina Velazquez Solis (San Jose\, Costa Rica/Ithaca) and Travis Johns (Ithaca) presenting works that incorporate resonance\, mechanics\, sensors\, soft sculpture\, found objects\, radio interference\, taxidermy and of course\, sound.\n\nPlease join us for an opening on Friday\, July 31 from 6-8 PM\, as well as gallery hours from 2-4 PM on Saturdays and Sundays (and by appointment) as well as for select special events over the course of the show.\n\n \n \n

SUMMARY:July :: Kinds of Water :: IV_Gallery :: Cortright_electric :: 07.18.2026 7:30-9pm
DESCRIPTION:Kinds of water drown us. Kinds of water do not. ––Anne Carson\n\nKinds of Water is a collaborative exhibition by Ithaca based artists Sofia Theodore-Pierce\, Peter Christian\, and Daniel Murphy. The moving image works installed explore stand-ins\, alter-egos\, and facsimiles of space. A man changes his name and heads west. A woman waterfalls down a hill. The room is flooded with light. Pieces of furniture pillaged from the Cortright Barn compose the set of an unfinished film. Join us. \nKinds of Water: a work-in-progress showcase \n \nClosing Reception: July 18\, 2026 7:30-9pm\n \n \n

SUMMARY:March 2026 :: Open House #2 :: IN PROCESS Collective Residency :: IV_Gallery :: o p e n h o u s e
DESCRIPTION:v e n u e \nIV Gallery @ Cortright Electric \n653 Elmira Road Ithaca\, between the graveyard and grayhaven motel\, rt. 13 \no p e n h o u s e #2 \nIN PROCESS: A COLLECTIVE RESIDENCY \nJon Bailiff\nCore Sample (Dan Torop & collaborators)\nBlake Fall-Conroy\nLaura Robert\nWerner Sun\nJessica Warner\nMelissa Zarem \nv i s i t i n g h o u r s \nMarch 1\, 2026 2pm – 4pm \n(poetry performance at 2:30pm) \nl o g i s t i c s     \nparking at cemetery preferred \nfront house by the road \nenter in the back \ntoilet at grayhaven \nrespect resident privacy \nthis machine kills fascists \nt h e r e s i d e n c y \nVisual artists are often makers of objects\, but sometimes these finished pieces hide the process by which they came to be. \n“In Process” is a residency of artists and collectives who will transform IV Gallery @ Cortright Electric into a site of improvisation and play. \nDuring this extended performance\, individual projects and installations will mingle and overlap as they evolve. The artists will be working with a variety of materials — weavings\, soil samples\, paintings\, prints\, videos\, sculpture\, and electronics — and the outcome of this residency will be the curiosity and experimentation that is generated along the way. \nJon Bailiff is a visiting Artist-in-Residence at EYEVEE working in fiber\, photography/video\, physical presence\, painting\, printing\, and improvisatory installation. A UW-Madison alumnus\, Bailiff has designed for the Ukraine We Are Here multi-media exhibition\, the late Frank Moore’s performance set design\, Fish-Ins: Black Native Solidarity in the 60s\, 1000 Artists@Inauguration\, and the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History’s Shadow Theater. He served on the original Santa Cruz Public Arts Commission and teaches multi-media art\, from weaving to robotics. \nCore Sample: Last November\, a group of collaborators (soil scientists\, ceramicists\, geochemists\, machinists\, engineers\, and photographers) collected a deep soil core sample at The Soil Factory. This action was generated by a simple question: Does the soil have memory? After several attempts\, a soft spot was found\, and samples were taken down to 10 feet using an auger. Participants utilized a FWD truck\, trowels and wrenches\, and The Giddings Soil Sampling Coring Probe. Through photography\, painting\, and sculpture\, artists Dan Torop and Laura Robert interpreted what was encountered\, exploring their memories of a cold day in the field. This project also includes invaluable contributions from Anna Ialeggio\, Johannes Lehmann\, Tammo Steenhuis\, Naaran Brindt\, Jared May\, Annette Dathe\, Steve Pacenka\, Bob Schindelbeck\, Matthew Fenn\, and Caitlyn Hatzell. \nBlake Fall-Conroy is an artist and self-taught mechanical engineer. Born in Baltimore\, Maryland\, he received his BFA in Sculpture from Cornell University and MFA in Art and Technology Studies from School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His artmaking practice is conceptually motivated\, engaging with a wide range of social issues from consumerism and the American spectacle\, to surveillance and the ubiquitous use of technology. Fall-Conroy’s projects often incorporate mechanical\, electronic\, or programmed components as well as objects or motifs found within the routine of daily life. \nLaura Robert: As the 23/24 Kahn Fellow at the Ink Shop in downtown Ithaca\, I explored the themes of affirmation\, community and education. My practice relies heavily on repetition\, both as a making form and as a tool for relationship building. Here at Cortright Electric I expanded my presentation to include written and spoken word\, drawings as an expression of photographic documentation and sculptural forms to create language. Thank you for your presence. \nWerner Sun is a visual artist with a background in physics\, who lives and works in Ithaca\, NY. He uses repetitive manual processes to slowly transform digital images into sculptural objects that evoke the gradual accumulation of knowledge in science. Commissioned for Cornell University’s Mann Library and Botanic Gardens\, Sun has exhibited at the Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester and Manifest Gallery. A 2019 Aon-CUE Artist Empowerment Award recipient\, his work explores how scientific methods and artistic processes reveal our complex relationship to perception and understanding. \nJessica Warner creates paintings\, drawings\, and is working in printmaking as the Khan Family Fellow at the Ink Shop in Ithaca\, NY. Her work explores how meaning evolves through the processes of making and looking. She has been a Resident at the Vermont Studio Center\, and exhibited at The Kirkland Art Center and Neighbors Gallery. Her work is represented in collections at Cornell University and The Upstate Cancer Center. She studied at SUNY Purchase and has taught at the Community School of Music and Art\, and Ithaca College. \nMelissa Zarem is an abstract painter whose layered\, experimental works explore the boundaries of perception. Her pieces\, acquired by the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Cornell University’s permanent collection\, challenge viewers’ understanding of truth through intricate mixed-media compositions. A recipient of grants from the Constance Saltonstall Foundation and Vermont Studio Center\, Zarem has exhibited nationally\, including at Aqua Art Miami and the Abrons Art Center. Her black and white drawing book\, Spring Loaded\, showcases her distinctive artistic vision. \n \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n	\n________
