SUMMARY:March Gallery Night with Alice Mischke
DESCRIPTION:Upstream- A Year of Persistence\nOpening Reception: Friday March 6th 5-8pm\nAlice Mischke is an impressionistic and abstract landscape painter. Her subject material ranges from the nostalgic\, vague nature of remembered places to the shapes and colors of the landscapes we inhabit. Her current work is achieved using tools and mediums to develop\, uncover and reveal textures and hidden surfaces that create depth and meaning. In addition to the importance of living here\, working with artists such as Jimmy Clark and Paulus Berensohn in clay and journal making have influenced her interest in the impact of surface treatments. More recent workshops and the connected community groups of abstract artist and educator Nicholas Wilton have been influential in developing that theme. A recipient of a New York State Council on the Arts FY2026 artists support grant\, she is currently working on a series of abstract landscapes that will be shown in a November exhibition at the Tioga Council of the Arts building in Owego\, NY. Her work is in many private collections and in the National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls\, New York. A long-time member of the Owego arts community\, she maintains a studio in The Walk-Up Gallery & Studio Spaces in Owego\, on the 2nd floor above the Tioga Arts Council\, with a lovely view of the Susquehanna River. \nThis show will be available for viewing throughout March during office hours. Please call first to verify our current office hours. \nThis program is made possible in part with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant program from the New York State Council on the Arts\, with the support of the office of the Governor and NYS Legislature\, administered by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County.

The artists will be working with a variety of materials — weavings\, soil samples\, paintings\, prints\, videos\, sculpture\, and electronics — and the outcome of this residency will be the curiosity and experimentation that is generated along the way. \nJon Bailiff is a visiting Artist-in-Residence at EYEVEE working in fiber\, photography/video\, physical presence\, painting\, printing\, and improvisatory installation. A UW-Madison alumnus\, Bailiff has designed for the Ukraine We Are Here multi-media exhibition\, the late Frank Moore’s performance set design\, Fish-Ins: Black Native Solidarity in the 60s\, 1000 Artists@Inauguration\, and the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History’s Shadow Theater. He served on the original Santa Cruz Public Arts Commission and teaches multi-media art\, from weaving to robotics. \nCore Sample: Last November\, a group of collaborators (soil scientists\, ceramicists\, geochemists\, machinists\, engineers\, and photographers) collected a deep soil core sample at The Soil Factory. This action was generated by a simple question: Does the soil have memory? After several attempts\, a soft spot was found\, and samples were taken down to 10 feet using an auger. Participants utilized a FWD truck\, trowels and wrenches\, and The Giddings Soil Sampling Coring Probe. Through photography\, painting\, and sculpture\, artists Dan Torop and Laura Robert interpreted what was encountered\, exploring their memories of a cold day in the field. This project also includes invaluable contributions from Anna Ialeggio\, Johannes Lehmann\, Tammo Steenhuis\, Naaran Brindt\, Jared May\, Annette Dathe\, Steve Pacenka\, Bob Schindelbeck\, Matthew Fenn\, and Caitlyn Hatzell. \nBlake Fall-Conroy is an artist and self-taught mechanical engineer. Born in Baltimore\, Maryland\, he received his BFA in Sculpture from Cornell University and MFA in Art and Technology Studies from School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His artmaking practice is conceptually motivated\, engaging with a wide range of social issues from consumerism and the American spectacle\, to surveillance and the ubiquitous use of technology. Fall-Conroy’s projects often incorporate mechanical\, electronic\, or programmed components as well as objects or motifs found within the routine of daily life. \nLaura Robert: As the 23/24 Kahn Fellow at the Ink Shop in downtown Ithaca\, I explored the themes of affirmation\, community and education. My practice relies heavily on repetition\, both as a making form and as a tool for relationship building. Here at Cortright Electric I expanded my presentation to include written and spoken word\, drawings as an expression of photographic documentation and sculptural forms to create language. Thank you for your presence. \nWerner Sun is a visual artist with a background in physics\, who lives and works in Ithaca\, NY. He uses repetitive manual processes to slowly transform digital images into sculptural objects that evoke the gradual accumulation of knowledge in science. Commissioned for Cornell University’s Mann Library and Botanic Gardens\, Sun has exhibited at the Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester and Manifest Gallery. A 2019 Aon-CUE Artist Empowerment Award recipient\, his work explores how scientific methods and artistic processes reveal our complex relationship to perception and understanding. \nJessica Warner creates paintings\, drawings\, and is working in printmaking as the Khan Family Fellow at the Ink Shop in Ithaca\, NY. Her work explores how meaning evolves through the processes of making and looking. She has been a Resident at the Vermont Studio Center\, and exhibited at The Kirkland Art Center and Neighbors Gallery. Her work is represented in collections at Cornell University and The Upstate Cancer Center. She studied at SUNY Purchase and has taught at the Community School of Music and Art\, and Ithaca College. \nMelissa Zarem is an abstract painter whose layered\, experimental works explore the boundaries of perception. Her pieces\, acquired by the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Cornell University’s permanent collection\, challenge viewers’ understanding of truth through intricate mixed-media compositions. A recipient of grants from the Constance Saltonstall Foundation and Vermont Studio Center\, Zarem has exhibited nationally\, including at Aqua Art Miami and the Abrons Art Center. Her black and white drawing book\, Spring Loaded\, showcases her distinctive artistic vision. \n \n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n\n	\n \n \n________

SUMMARY:February Gallery Night with Weston Czerkies
DESCRIPTION:“Hard Copy” : Past and current collage and design work\nOpening Reception: Friday February 6th 5-8pm\n“Weston Czerkies is a collage artist and visual designer working in the medium of xerox art. Informed by hardcore punk and industrial noise visual aesthetics\, Czerkies collects and uses source material from 1950s -1970s photography\, advertisements\, informational diagrams\, letterpress block imagery and public domain illustration. These visual components are photocopied and re-worked using simple cut and paste methods as well as xerox scanner manipulation. While text is often generated and aligned in a digital document format\, it is then printed\, scanner-distorted and physically manipulated on the scanner bed to match its image companions. All visual material is otherwise entirely hand-altered through continued re-copying. \nThe pieces presented here date from the earlier days of Czerkies’ avant-garde/punk cassette label Prime Ruin (circa 2013 onward) to his more recent flyer designs and work with his current label Gracious Host. The imagery for these works is largely chosen and contorted to complement the music and artistic intent of the musicians it is supporting. Visions of the surreal and dream-like are binding themes in many of these collages as the sound work they are made for is often composed as a form of escapism or mental processing. \nAside from making art to support his own musical endeavors\, Czerkies also works on commission designing flyers for live events\, album artwork and merchandise for artists such as Fed Ash\, STCLVR\, Mountain of Woe\, Hunted Down\, Kjostad\, and more. Currently he is assisting with faceplate designs for local pedal company Whisker House Electronics as well as designing covers for several new albums with his main sound project\, Magnetic Coroner. He can be reached at primeruined@gmail.com” \nThis show will be available for viewing throughout February during office hours. Please call first for our winter office hours. \nThis program is made possible in part with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant program from the New York State Council on the Arts\, with the support of the office of the Governor and NYS Legislature\, administered by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County.

SUMMARY:Susie Bright presents: Behind the Scenes of “The Celluloid Closet”
DESCRIPTION:Movies In The Lounge @ Grayhaven Motel\nSusie Bright presents: Behind the Scenes of “The Celluloid Closet” \nA video show and tell from one of the creators of the fabled Hollywood documentary. \nIn 1996\, Susie and friends Rob Epstein\, Jeffery Friedman\, Lily Tomlin\, Army Maupin\, Shirley McLaine\, Gore Vidal\, Harvey Fierstein\, Whoopi Goldberg – made a mouth-dropping movie about the “secret” gay world of Old Hollywood\, when being in the closet was de rigueur\, but imparting queer aesthetics was EVERYTHING. It was based on the work of film historian Vito Russo\, and went on to win Peabody\, Emmy\, and Sundance accolades – more importantly\, rewriting Tinsel Town history with the truth. \nSusie will show us the movie\, and will tell us the juicy parts that didn’t make the Final Cut\, as well as how we pulled it off against all the odds! \nWhen: Movie viewing will be held on December 12th at 5:00 PM. \nWhere: We will meet in the cozy Grayhaven Motel Guest Lounge.

SUMMARY:December Gallery Night with TC3 Art Department
DESCRIPTION:We Found the Time\nA TC3 Faculty + Student Showcase at the Grayhaven Motel\nArt made between everything else. \nWe Found the Time highlights the creative work of TC3 faculty and students who continue to make art alongside the many demands of everyday life. The exhibition explores what it means to sustain a creative practice within the spaces between teaching\, learning\, working\, and living. \nThe show celebrates the moments stolen between classes\, jobs\, and long to-do lists\, where making something just for the sake of it still mattered. Across a range of materials and perspectives\, these works reveal the persistence of creativity and the ways it can ground us\, connect us\, and help us make sense of the world\, when we can find the time. \nThis program is made possible in part with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant program from the New York State Council on the Arts\, with the support of the office of the Governor and NYS Legislature\, administered by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County.

SUMMARY:November 2025 :: Tintype Show :: Crystal Calabrese and Nicolai Klimaszewski :: IV Gallery :: 11.22.2025 Opening
DESCRIPTION:Contemporary Tintype Portraits created in the traditional wet-plate collodion process by Crystal Amethyst Calabrese focus on farmers and farming in the Finger Lakes. \nA site-specific installation of historical Tintype Portraits curated by Nicolai Klimaszewski seeks to breathe life into the characters and community that existed in America during the earliest days of photography. \nA working tintype studio and demos on Sat & Sun. \n3 Days Only:\nNovember\n21 @ 4-7\n22 @ 11-4 (opening reception)\n23 @ 1-4 \nIV Gallery at Cortright Electric\n653 Elmira Rd. Ithaca \nMore information and details: eyeveearts@gmail.com \nQuestions: Nicolai 607 279-1126 \n“Farmers and Farmscapes” is an ongoing portrait series of Finger Lakes farmers and the land they steward. Through her original tintype photographs\, Calabrese invites an open conversation about the realities of farming and our shared responsibility of caring for the land for future generations. Her project also highlights the importance of preserving endangered art forms through continued practice. \nCrystal Calabrese is an Ithaca-area artist who uses the historic wet-plate collodion process to document contemporary small-scale agriculture and our evolving relationship to the land. Working from her mobile darkroom\, she mixes her own chemistry and creates handmade\, direct-positive images on metal and glass plates. The tintypes in “Farmers and Farmscapes” were made with a 120-year-old Seneca View Camera onto 5” x 7” metal plates. Her project was supported by a grant from the Arts Council of the Southern Finger Lakes. \nKlimaszewski’s show is a site-specific installation of historical tintype portraits. They have been printed larger to make detail accessible and to enhance the presence of the characters depicted. “George Robinson’s America c.1870” presents a cohesive selection of portraits originally created by anonymous photographers during the years 1860-1880. The installation seeks to breathe life into the characters and community that existed in America during the early days of portrait photography. \nKlimaszewski is an artist and a collector of all things photographic. He has exhibited his artwork nationally and internationally. His work has been recognized and supported by the National Endowment for the Arts\, The Rockefeller Foundation\, and the New York State Council on the Arts. He has organized\, curated\, and juried shows in galleries and museums\, including The Tarpon Springs National Arts and Crafts Show\, and the Johnson Museum of Art. This show is curated from his personal collection of tintype photographs. \n \n

SUMMARY:November Gallery Night with Marshall Hopkins
DESCRIPTION:Memory Sketches\nFriday November 7th 5-8pm\n  \nMemory Sketches: “Little life memories\, like the ones we all been carry around\, maybe not the traumatic or spectacular events\, but ones that have endured in our minds through time and that we return to as constant clues to our identity and self. Why those snippets? and what did they look like? Can I bring mine back into view in the same manner that I would copy a landscape or a still life?” \nMarshall Hopkins is a designer\, illustrator\, and cartoonist who’s worked everywhere from a gold-leaf frame studio to newsrooms to academic publishing. SUMMARY:October Gallery Night with Craig Mains
DESCRIPTION:Celebration Folly\nFriday October 3rd 5-8pm\nThe subject of my prints include things that have gone awry typically by natural causes or human miscalculation. Large man-made objects and proscribed spaces appear to me as attractors of natural malaise: bridges beckon rivers to swell and wash out\, trailer parks are tornado magnets\, golf courses want to be struck by lightning and offshore oil platforms are asking for a storm surge. \nMany of the works in this exhibit pertain to a kind of celebration folly. In an attempt to create awesome splendor to mark important dates\, celebrations can turn to devastation. Gender reveal parties have sent pipe bombs into grandmas\, caused numerous small fires and two major forest fires\, and at least 3 plane crashes. The manufacture of fireworks is dangerous and workplace slip-ups can level entire city blocks. Seeing the incredible force and beauty of these sparkling explosions creates a dissidence between horror\, awe and delight. \nThis program is made possible in part with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant program from the New York State Council on the Arts\, with the support of the office of the Governor and NYS Legislature\, administered by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County.

SUMMARY:September ’25 Gallery Night w/ Sean Ryan
DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday September 5th\, 4:30pm-7:30pm in the Grayhaven Gallery Lounge for Rock\, Graffiti\, and Oil: An Art Opening with Sean Ryan. \nSean Ryan is a dynamic artist who has cultivated his passion for painting later in life. Inspired by a lifetime itch he finally scratched in his 50s\, Ryan’s work reflects a unique blend of influences. As he puts it\, “If you took rock poster art\, graffiti\, music and oil painting and mixed them in a soup\, that’s what I’m eating.” His art embodies a journey of continuous discovery\, guided by a philosophy to “just pick up a paint brush and paint 100 things—then figure it out from there.” \nWork will be on display and available to view in the Guest Lounge from 8am – 8pm daily\, through the month of September. \nMade possible in part with funds from the New York State Council on the Arts\, administered by the Community Arts Partnership.

SUMMARY:August Gallery Night with Christina Reilly
DESCRIPTION:Sketches from the Bhavacakra\nOpening reception Friday August 1st\, 5-8pm in the Grayhaven Gallery Lounge\nIf you can not make the opening reception please stop by during office hours 8am-8pm to view throughout the month of August.\nArtist Statement:\nI’m an Emmy-winning filmmaker and photographer—and an amateur artist presenting my first exhibit. This is a work in progress\, much like the subject at its heart. For years\, I’ve been drawn to the ancient Buddhist image known as the bhavacakra\, or Wheel of Life. It’s a densely symbolic diagram said to have been used by the Buddha himself to explain the cycles of suffering\, rebirth\, and liberation to everyday people. The figures within it—both grotesque and tender—represent states of mind we all pass through in our human experience.\n \nThis collection is a series of sketches\, personal interpretations of those characters\, created as part of my own learning and reflection. Some appear dark\, even disturbing—but there is always a path forward. In the upper right corner of the original drawing\, a figure gestures upward\, pointing toward the moon: toward release\, toward freedom. I like to think her message is simple and timeless: Let go. These drawings are not final\, nor are they meant to be authoritative. They are pieces of a longer inquiry\, offered in the spirit of curiosity\, impermanence\, and practice.

SUMMARY:February 2025 Gallery Night w/ Cole DuMond
DESCRIPTION:Dreamscapes \nI had a big imagination when I was a kid. When my family and I traveled I stared out the car or plane window for hours creating moving scenes and creatures\, but they would leave when I shut the door. As I grew up I looked out the window less and less while keeping my foot in that imaginary door. Now with every drawing that door opens more and more. Welcome to my journey to reopen that door. –Cole \nJoin us February 7th from 5-7pm as we showcase the work of local artist Cole DuMond accompanied by live music from Rev Ezra\, Sarah Noell & Tenzin Chopak in our inviting mid century guest lounge. The opening reception is part of Ithaca First Fridays Gallery Night. Cole’s show will be available for viewing during our office hours through February if you cannot make the opening. Call for our current winter hours before stopping in. \nThis program is made possible in part with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant program from the New York State Council on the Arts\, with the support of the office of the Governor and NYS Legislature\, administered by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County.

SUMMARY:November 2024 Gallery Night w/ Scott Ackerman
DESCRIPTION:Scott Michael Ackerman is a self-taught artist from upstate New York. Working at times within the traditions of Folk and Outsider art\, Ackerman frequently utilizes unorthodox materials and found objects in his practice. As a self-taught artist he considers his approach as primitive and unconventional\, rejecting the boundaries of traditional culture. He explains his process is driven by intuition and instinct\, using acrylic\, pencil and spray paint for their immediacy: “When I sit down to work\, I typically don’t know what I’m going to paint. I use mediums that dry quickly in order for me to get as much down on the surface while it’s still fresh in my head”. Titles are carefully chosen and he uses text within the works to point towards a “telling” of the story as he imaged it. The viewer is presented with a starting point for their own interpretation. The influence of Folk art can be seen in Ackerman’s expressive mark making\, the use of varied and bright colors\, repetitive patterns\, and symbolic imagery. His style can be decorative at times\, especially is his rendition of natural elements. \nScott Michael Ackerman lives in Margaretville\, NY with his wife\, daughter\, and son that also serves as his studio/gallery space.

SUMMARY:August 2024 Gallery Night w/ Michael Callahan
DESCRIPTION:“Wind\, Waves + Water”  Seneca Stone Art by Michael Callahan with a live acoustic performance. \nIn early childhood\, I spent hours collecting shells and stones on various beaches around the US with my parents and grand parents. Searching for the right stones is a type of meditation. I am inspired by the vertically stacked shale-stones formed by waves near the waters edge of Seneca Lake. I like to think that my best work is achieved when I get out of the way of myself and let the stones take me where they want to go\, as close to nature as possible. \nMichael Callahan holds a degree in Industrial Design from The University Of The Arts in Philadelphia. He has studied landscape painting\, glass blowing\, blacksmithing\, woodworking and pottery. He spent 20 years designing products mainly in the housewares industry working on brands such as Steuben\, OXO\, All Clad\, Umbra\, Pyrex\, Revere and Oneida. He has lived on Seneca Lake for 20 years with his wife Mary. \nMade possible in part with funds from the New York State Council on the Arts\, administered by the Community Arts Partnership.

SUMMARY:December Gallery Night
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this December’s First Friday Gallery Night in our guest gallery lounge! From 4-7pm on Friday\, December 2nd we will be showcasing photographer Keith Millman’s new collection\, Pictures from my Boat. \n  \nArtist Statement \n“Pictures From My Boat” are made from two feet above the water while I sit in my solo\ncanoe paddling around lakes in northern New York. In half-second exposures\, I\nphotograph while traveling across the water. I am afloat while at the lowest reaches of\nthe sky. I breathe from one element while the other holds me up. Right where the sky and\nwater meet\, I am a little into each.\nThough I sit at the in-between\, I can orient myself when I see the horizon – it is\ncomforting to know where there is land. By looking at the horizon I feel placed in my\nsmall boat. Waves\, wind\, and momentum move my vessel so it is rare the boat is actually\nstill. It is always in motion. Even if I am motionless\, the boat turns\, moves and pivots.\nFrom my vantage it is the landscape that is in flux\, changing\, and overlapping. The\nlandscape is in motion\, not me. \nKeith Millman\n11-2022 \n  \n  \nGrayhaven’s cash bar will be open for drinks and light snacks. \nKeith’s show will be up through December\, freely viewable Tuesdays – Sundays between 8am – 7pm. \nSee you there!
