December 2024 TC3 Art Department – Fragments of Identity…

“Fragments of Identity” brings together the diverse artistic voices of TC3 faculty, students, and tutors. The exhibition explores the concept of identity through a variety of media—cross-contour drawings that capture the tactile essence of human form, portraits that tell personal stories, and fragmented digital works that reflect the layered nature of our digital age. This collection invites viewers to piece together the various fragments, forming a collective mosaic of experiences, perceptions, and expressions. Curated by Megan VanKanegan and Tanya Komar.

August 2024 Michael Callahan – “Wind, Waves, and Water” Seneca Stone Art…

In early childhood, I spent hours collecting shells and stones on various beaches around the US with my parents and grand parents. Searching for the right stones is a type of meditation. I am inspired by the vertically stacked shale-stones formed by waves near the waters edge of Seneca Lake. I like to think that my best work is achieved when I get out of the way of myself and let the stones take me where they want to go, as close to nature as possible.

July 2024 Julia DeGraff – “Living Color”… is about my exploration of light, color and life. Our world darkens, spinning out of control and every spark of hope burns out. Sometimes we are blind to it, but still, always, there is life beginning, thriving, exploding with fresh chances and new stories.

April 2024 – Josh Dolan – Broken Guitars…

BROKEN GUITARS is a series by Josh Dolan utilizing broken and rescued guitars as a canvas for collage giving them new life as art pieces. The imagery of horses and the cosmos are often found in these works which tap into our subconscious need to ride! And broken things like broken people can still be beautiful and find new life.

Josh has been a maker since childhood but only recently returned to active status as a visual artist. The pandemic, as for many of us, illustrated just how fleeting life is and forced him to choose a life of art and music. Not only is he a visual artist, but he’s also a pretty decent musician, singer and songwriter; having released his first record in 2023 with The 86ers.

Twelve photos will be on display for the exhibit, and a larger selection will be available during the opening.

November 2023 – Jessica WarnerDrawings….

Jessica is interested in painting as a complex and contradictory space that can hold multiple meanings, scales and time frames together, can reframe how we engage with familiar objects and spaces. Her work is grounded in the experience of close observation but through the process, moves toward abstraction, imagination and suggestion. She works with the same objects over time, rearranging them into new contexts, allowing patterns in meanings to emerge and evolve through the process of making.

October 2023 – A collaborative show with Yen Ospina and Laura RowleyHabitat/Fantasia

Step into a realm where the echoes of the past intertwine with the flights of imagination. In my upcoming art exhibition, I am thrilled to present a series that draws its essence from the intricate etchings and lithographs of the 1500s. These timeless techniques have lent their mystique to my work, allowing me to craft a magical series that bridges the gap between centuries.

May 2023 – Frank ShifreenNew Works

December / January 2022-23 – Keith MillmanPictures from my boat… “Pictures From My Boat” are made from two feet above the water while I sit in my solo canoe paddling around lakes in northern New York. In half-second exposures, I photograph while traveling across the water. I am afloat while at the lowest reaches of the sky. I breathe from one element while the other holds me up. Right where the sky and water meet, I am a little into each. Though I sit at the in-between, I can orient myself when I see the horizon – it is comforting to know where there is land. By looking at the horizon I feel placed in my small boat. Waves, wind, and momentum move my vessel so it is rare the boat is actually still. It is always in motion. Even if I am motionless, the boat turns, moves and pivots. From my vantage it is the landscape that is in flux, changing, and overlapping. The landscape is in motion, not me.

November 2022 – Audrey BialkeGood Creatures… Bialke’s intensely decorated paintings and drawings are made with imagery collected from and influenced primarily by illuminated manuscripts. Her work considers our long intertwined histories with animals and the wild natural world through depicting figure, flora, and fauna. She integrates antiques, furniture, and domestic objects into these images to suggest a persistent thread of human things. Her work was recently shown at SPRING/BREAK NYC 2022 “Naked Lunch”, in her solo exhibit Illumination Station. She currently lives and works in Trumansburg, New York.

October 2022 – Mauro MarinelliPrimary Theory…new paintings

September 2022 – Eva Capobianco – Exploring the Trail…

The inspiration for this series began during the Finger Lakes Trail spring weekend of 2019. I spent three days with friends hiking the western end of the Trail in Allegheny State Park. After a very rainy spring, we were trekking through a lot of mud and across streams of various sizes. At one point we crossed a wooden bridge spanning about 30 feet. The stream crossings can be anything from a couple of planks to substantial wood structures. Using my i-phone, I snapped some photos of this bridge and continued hiking. As I walked, I started imagining a wall sculpture in my mind. I would use a photo of this bridge alongside a couple of wood boards to represent a simple crossing. As I pictured the piece in my mind, the idea grew into a whole series. I would find inspiration from the photos and make at least one piece for each of the 34 maps on the trail. The works are designed partly on paper and partly by arranging and re-arranging the found objects with the photos. Once a design is set, the works are carefully and lovingly assembled, sanded, and polished to bring them to life.
